On April 28th, 2023, my friend Ellen and I set out for a trail ride. It was a beautiful day, the sun was shining, and it marked the end of her birthday week as she celebrated turning 79. An experienced horsewoman, Ellen and I enjoyed our ride side by side, until, in an instant, everything changed, and only one of us returned to the barn…

 

Ellen's life was tragically taken in a preventable accident. Ellen’s Message aims to raise AWARENESS that horses are not machines; they are living beings with a natural instinct to flee from danger.

 

Everyone on the roads and trails—cars, trucks, dirt bikes, cyclists, and hikers—must yield to horses. If a horse appears upset or out of control, please stop and take a moment to ensure the safety of both the horse and rider.

 

Equestrians are not here to take over the roadways; we simply ask for the same courtesy extended to motorcycles, cyclists, and pedestrians. Share the road and yield to horses when necessary
